I had thoughts of buying a cycle for some time now, but I was not sure on maintaining it. This thought kept me more puzzled whether to buy cycle or not. These days especially starting with this year, I have been cycling around, with couple of duathlons and major adventure event in February Enduro3 in which I cycled around 75kms. It was simple decision to make and buy the cycle. With budget around 11k to 12k I felt this would not put big hole in my pocket. After some research and inquiry, I had brought down my options to Hercules and LA-Sovereign. Hercules is well established cycle brand in India and very popular brand and this was safe bet, but somehow I had my reservations on this, not sure why but I wanted to go for other brands and thought of taking my chances. Extending budget beyond 15k or close to 20k was not an option for me. Well, I thought good cycle with better price tag would always perform well, how about making an average cycle to outperform and meet all your expectations. Cyclists owning Trek, Marida, etc please don’t curse me for this. I browsed for LA-Sovereign and found the features and price fit my needs. LA-Sovereign wave was priced at 11,190 rupees. A descent bike, good color , Thai-India collaborative brand. Last Saturday I went to check the bike at RR Cycles at Madivala. I asked for LA-Sovereign wave alloy and found the cycle very good looking. I checked the reviews with the shop owners which he said is descent one, feature which stand out in this bike is the front disc, wheel rim size which 27.5 in this cycle for 12k range. Later I googled to check the reviews in the net, to my surprise there were no reviews available for this bike except it was mentioned in some blogs, 27.5er or commonly called 650B bikes are intermediate of 26er and 29er bikes and had a good review. Now let me try this one. I spoke to few of my friends who own cycles, they too were not heard of this brand much. So now it was just a matter of gut feeling to go with this bike. Next day I visited the cycle shop, with few more tests and comprehensions, finally I decided to take chances and bet on LA-Sovereign wave 650b. Cycle came along with side stand, dealer fitted me water bottle cage and bell. I bought the lock, in all paid 11,400 /- rupees. They offered two months of service on the bike. I rode the bike back to my room that was around 15kms. It was a good ride but I had few hiccups during the gear change and also wheels were wobbling. No presumption yet, I will put up a good review, after good long ride in 2-3 months from now. For now, I welcome new member to my family LA-Sovereign Wave 650b.

I did some research and narrowed down to few models from BSA Hercules. Couple of days back I visited this dealer in Tilak Nagar (Gandhi Cycles). I tried some of the cycles and I liked this model LA650B very much. Somehow I got a good feeling riding this bike. The shopkeeper informed me that its complete alloy make and convinced me that its a good choice. The cost they told me was Rs.16000 + 5% tax!!! I paid this amount and asked them to deliver the cycle to my house. It was very late in the evening and they agreed to deliver it next morning.
And here is how your post helped. Once I returned home I was surfing the net to read some reviews about this LA 650B. Like you mentioned in your post there were no reviews available on the net. Fortunately I landed on this page and I was shocked and surprised to know that you have bought this cycle just 2 weeks back for Rs.11 ,190! I then checked the LA Sovereign website and validated this rate.
The next day morning I called LA Sovereign's helpdesk and confirmed the price. I called the dealer and informed them that I will come over to their place and collect my cycle. I spoke to the store manager and informed him the original cost was only 11,190.. Initially these guys refused to accept their mistake. But after some heater conversations, they agreed to check their price list and check if there was a mistake. After almost an hour, they agreed that it was mistake from their end and they returned me my amount (5K)!!! :)

Even I was told Rs 14,500 initially, but shop owner was decent enough to call the dealer and confirm price when I told him price was 11,190 in LA site.
Sunday I did cycling for about 70 kms, bike handling, control and other stuff pretty good. Bike didn't give any problem..I still have problem with gears, shocks are good but not that great for off roading, I need to take it to the first service and see what could be done. Overall good experience till now. I will soon post about my sunday ride.

ReplyDeleteI can put a brief review if you looking it as one of your option to buy. I will write about in detail some time. Bike is good, in the last 2 months I had been to 3 rides 30kms, 70kms and 90 kms [last weekend]. As of now I am riding it only for long rides.
Pros -
It looks good. Handling is very good. Both on road and off road.
Gears shift : I was having some problem with this earlier in my 1st and 2nd ride but after the service, surprised!! its very smooth now.
Front disc - doesn't help you much but still a good feature.
27.5 wheel - bike looks big and good compared to 26'er, runs faster, I touched 40kmph in my last ride. Not sure can ride beyond that speed too.
Cons [Not really cons but few things to notice]-
Fixed stand irritates me while on off roads. Sometimes it makes sound.
Wheel wobble - this is not the problem with bike but tyre. Still persists.
15.5 kg cycle - during long rides this could be a factor while you do uphill. If you are using it for office commutation or any small rides I don't feel it is any major drawback.
Overall a very good bike. As I mentioned in the blog, if you are looking for descent price bike, GO FOR IT !!

ReplyDeleteI am researching on buying a new cycle since a month.problem is I m 6.2 so a frame size of 17 or 18 is too small. I need one with 21 or minimum 19.5 . Nowhere is d frame size mentioned. Also considering 27.5 tyres. Is it available in common market. One dealer told me to go for 26 inch since availability of bigger trees n issue in india
